Kwara State Tops New COVID-19 Cases

Kwara State in Nigeria has, for the first time, topped new COVID-19 cases, Nigeria Centre for Disease Control confirmed on Monday.

Of 20 states including Federal Capital Territory, Kwara got 98 cases to push Lagos with 81 to a second position.

NCDC tweeted ”On the 15th of February 2021, 574 new confirmed cases and 8 deaths were recorded in Nigeria.’’

According to the public health agency, ‘’Kwara (98), Lagos (81), Edo (59), Ondo (44), FCT (41), Kano (34), Ogun (33), Kaduna (29), Osun (28), Enugu (23), Rivers (18), Delta (16), Akwa Ibom (15), Bauchi (12), Imo (10), Borno (8), Niger (8), Kebbi (7), Nasarawa (5) Gombe (3) and Ekiti (2).’’

It stated ”Till date, 146,928 cases have been confirmed, 123,009 cases have been discharged and 1,761 deaths have been recorded in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory

”A multi-sectoral national emergency operations centre (EOC) activated at Level 3, continues to coordinate the national response activities.

Our discharges today includes community recoveries in Oyo (1,198), Lagos (227) and Kwara State (53), managed in line with guidelines.’’

Meanwhile, Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu, NCDC Director-General, tweeted, “Our Team just returned from Cross River, whom we supported to restart #COVID19 testing at the Lawrence Henshaw Hospital Lab, destroyed during riots that followed the protests last year.

”We’ll continue to work with the State to scale testing”
