With effect from Monday, Akwa Ibom Peoples Democratic Party has flown its flag half mast in honour of the departed Chairman, Udo Ekpenyong.

In addition, the party has declared a one-week period of mourning for the late chairman.

A press release signed by Lawrence Udosen, the State Deputy Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party on Monday, has directed all the chapter and ward offices of the party to comply.

”In line with the lingering mood of grief that the Peoples Democratic Party has been thrown into as a result of the death of the State Party Chairman, the late Obong Udo Ekpenyong, the State Working Committee (SWC), of our party hereby declares a one-week period of mourning in honour of the departed chairman.

”To reflect this mood, the SWC further directs that all PDP flags in the State Secretariat Complex of our party as well as those at the Chapter and Ward offices must be flown at half mast.

”For a selfless and forward-thinking leader like the late Obong Udo Ekpenyong, no demonstration of grief will ever be too much.

”Again, it is our prayer that the special grace of God will be sufficient towards the bereaved family as they wade through this period of excruciating grief.

”We urge all members of our party to continue to stay safe and strictly observe all subsisting COVID-19 safety protocols.’’
