120 Persons In Diaspora Mark Time For 2019 Akwa Ibom ICONS Awards (AKIA)


More than 120 persons from United States of America, Asia, some African countries and other personalities who are in Uyo for this year’s Akwa Ibom ICONS Awards (AKIA) season 4 Awards conferment, may have to wait briefly.

This is as the Governing Council of the Akwa Ibom ICONS Awards (AKIA) has postponed the ceremony earlier scheduled for Friday, September 20, 2019 at Watbridge Hotels and Suites, Uyo owing to circumstances beyond its control.

A press release issued by Prince Ene Baba Owoh, Jr, AKIA Executive Secretary on Thursday and made available to Straightnews on Thursday in Uyo, said a new date for the Awards conferment would soon be announced, apologising, “any inconvenience caused our esteemed invited guests is highly regrettable.”

In a telephone interview with our reporter, Owoh noted, “The basic philosophy underlining the event is accelerated through the coming of our people who on an annual basis use the opportunity provided by their own to showcase the developmental chain of government at all levels and then catalyze tourism potentials and stimulate development potentials through networking and celebrate those of us who have demonstrated uncommon spirit of enterprise in their endeavours. This captures the entire mark which over 120 have come in from around and off America, Asia and some African countries.

“The bottomline is that in order to have a full functional settings note importantly the presence of the special guest of honour has to be taken seriously into consideration in line with the Dakkada spirit of enterprise the Dakkada mentor. The sensitization when the state will take all forms in order to reinforce and mobilise the direct stakeholders in line with the actual.”

Meanwhile, winners of the awards will be conferred with Akwa Ibom Person of the year (2015 – 2019), Local Government Chairman of the year/ Commissioner of the year (2015 – 2019), Legislature of the year (State & National) (2015 – 2019), Government Project of the year (2015 – 2019) and Akwa Ibom Woman of the year.

Others will emerge as Akwa Ibom most resourceful youth of the year, Akwa Ibom Company of the year, Akwa Ibom Cleanest Town/L.G.A. of the year, Akwa Ibom State Hotel /Tourism Ambassador of the year and Life-time achievement Ambassador of the year (indigene and non-indigene).
